A fortuneteller informs Hidari Taisho that he must hunt down 1,000 foxes in order to conquer the country. Accordingly, Akuemon, an unpopular figure disliked by everyone, is hired to carry out the fox‑hunting. In retaliation, the foxes send a female fox to Akuemon’s home, disguised as his wife. The story follows Akuemon, who has never known love, and the fox, who slowly discovers true affection for him while grieving the loss of her comrades. This is the sixth entry in The Lion Books series and the first attempt by visualist Tezuka Makoto, the elder son of Tezuka, to adapt his father’s original into an animated version.
