Set in 1625, the story follows 18‑year‑old D'Artagnan as he arrives in Paris. Almost immediately, he offends the three musketeers, Porthos, Aramis, and Athos, but instead of dueling, the four are attacked by five guards of the Cardinal. D'Artagnan’s courage shines during the battle, and the men become fast friends. Together they travel across France and England to thwart the plans of Cardinal Richelieu. Along the way they meet the beautiful spy Milady, who will stop at nothing to disgrace Queen Anne of Austria before her husband, King Louis XIII, and to exact revenge on the four friends.
