In the seemingly flawless, domed city of Romdo, a series of murders and a viral outbreak among the AutoReivs, cyborg companions and workers, signal a crisis in this controlled society. The sterile metropolis, where emotions are regulated and existence follows an orderly pattern, is cracking. A mysterious Cogito virus awakens self‑awareness in the AutoReivs, the android servants who maintain the city, sparking a string of unsettling killings. The investigation falls to Re‑l Mayer, the sharp, disaffected granddaughter of Romdo's ruler. Her privileged, detached life is shattered when a monstrous, super‑human creature attacks her, an event that thrusts her onto a perilous quest for answers. This journey draws her inexorably toward Vincent Law, a timid immigrant with no memory of his past, and the very creature that haunts her. Together with their AutoReiv companion, Pino, Re‑l, Vincent, and the monster must leave the confines of their controlled city and traverse a barren, dead world.
