The kingdoms of Dolhr, Grust, and Gra unite to wage war across the continent Archanea, ultimately defeating the Kingdom of Altea. In the midst of the conflict, King Cornelius falls in battle, but his son, Prince Marth, escapes thanks to the sacrifice of his older sister, Elice. Marth and a small group of retainers flee to the island nation of Talys, where they remain hidden for three years under the protection of the local royal family. While in Talys, Marth enjoys a peaceful life and the companionship of the island’s pegasus‑riding princess, Caeda, yet he feels uneasy, knowing that the day will soon come when he must take up arms. That day arrives when Caeda rushes to Marth and his companions, panicked, to report that their castle town has been attacked. After a series of close calls, they defeat the assailants and save the city. Realizing that his presence might bring further danger to his new home, Marth decides that the time has come to set out. He embarks on a quest to raise an army and reclaim his kingdom.
