Forza! Hidemaru is a soccer anime featuring a cast of quirky animals dressed in sports gear. Though it debuted in the early 21st century, the series captures the excitement of the 2002 World Cup hosted by Japan and South Korea, presenting its tropes to a very young audience with fresh enthusiasm. The protagonist, a feisty fox named Hidemaru, is joined by friends such as bunnies, dogs, horses, and two robust hippo girls. The show is adapted from Makoto Mizobuchi’s manga Hidemaru the Soccer Boy, which ran in CoroCoro Comics.
