Alchemy is governed by the principle that to obtain something, an equal value must be sacrificed. The art of alchemy involves disassembling an object and reconstructing it into a new form, following these rules. Yet, there is an object that can bypass these constraints: the Philosopher’s Stone. Edward Elric, a prodigious alchemist, suffered a tragic accident that cost him his younger brother Alphonse and one of his legs. In a desperate attempt to preserve Alphonse’s life, Edward sacrificed his other arm and used alchemy to bind his brother’s soul to a suit of armor. This event sets them on a quest to restore their bodies by seeking the legendary Philosopher’s Stone.
