Short film created by pioneering animator Seitarou Kitayama. It adapts the Japanese folk tale Hanasaka Jiijii (also known as Hanasaka Jiisan). The story centers on an elderly, childless couple who love their dog. One day the dog uncovers a box of gold in their garden. A neighboring villager, believing the dog can find treasure, borrows the dog. When the dog digs in the neighbor’s garden, it yields only bones, prompting the neighbor to kill it. He informs the couple that the dog had simply died. The couple mourns, burying the dog beneath the fig tree where the treasure was found.
