Melos, a good boy from Messina, arrives in the magnificent city of Syracuse to purchase a ritual sword for his sister's marriage ceremony. While there, he meets a talented sculptor and the two become friends. Later, Melos is arrested by the king's guards while walking in the castle gardens, and the king, obsessed with the notion of assassins, sentences him to death. Desperate but determined to attend his sister's wedding, Melos requests three days to return to Messina for the celebration, after which he will come back to Syracuse to accept the death penalty.
