Hibike! Wadaiko is an educational film that explores the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Japan. The story follows a group of children who are rehearsing taiko drums for a recital at their community center. When local adults intervene, demanding that the children stop because they think it is selfish and disruptive, the children’s teacher explains the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Armed with this knowledge, the children find the courage to challenge the adults’ belief that children do not understand or deserve a voice, and they stand up to dispel the notion that they should simply obey without question.
