Description
This animated retelling of “The Butterfly Lovers” follows the classic Chinese tale of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. Set during China’s Eastern Jin Dynasty, Zhu Yingtai hails from an upper‑class family. Because women were prohibited from attending school, she pleaded with her parents to let her go, and they agreed on the condition that she disguise herself as a young man. While studying in Hangzhou, she meets Liang Shanbo, a handsome upper‑class young man. The two instantly become close friends and swear to be sworn brothers forever. Over the course of three years of study, Yingtai keeps her true identity hidden from “Brother Liang,” and her affection for him deepens until she can think of nothing else but spending every day with him.
