Golion, a powerful sentient robot, abuses his great powers by attacking and killing the Deathblack Beastmen, boasting that no one could defeat him. A divine space being punishes him for his arrogance by separating him into five distinct lion robots. In 1999, five young men return to Earth after a space voyage, only to find it ravaged by nuclear war. After encountering the alien race known as the Galra, they are taken to the planet Altea, where they discover that the five lion robots into which Golion was split are in hibernation across the planet. They must reunite the lions and assemble Golion, the sole hope for the human race.
