Inamura no Hi

Description
A true historical account of the Inamura no Hi event. In 1854, the Nankai earthquake generated a tsunami that threatened a village. The villagers initially refused to evacuate, driven by ignorance and pride. To compel them to move to higher ground, some of the threshed rice grain stacks, called inamura, were deliberately set on fire. The villagers rushed into the fields to extinguish the flames and protect the remaining rice. While they were busy, the tsunami struck, destroying the entire village, but the villagers’ lives were saved.
