Dreaming of rising in the world, the tiny monk Chibisuke ventures to the city where he becomes a retainer to a cabinet minister. The minister takes a liking to Chibisuke and encourages him to dance in his palm. One day, while escorting a princess to Shimizu, they are attacked by a mountain devil. Chibisuke launches a series of surprise attacks on the beast, ultimately overcoming it. He then uses the horn of plenty left behind by the devil, and in doing so he grows into a strapping young man.
