Kashi no Ki Mokku is an anime adaptation of the classic Pinocchio tale, following Mokku, a wooden doll who comes to life thanks to a mystical blue fairy. Mokku is extremely gullible, naive, and morally confused, and he is plagued by a wide array of character flaws, including selfishness, rudeness, insensitivity, indolence, obstinacy, over‑trusting, self‑pity, stupidity, disobedience, compulsive lying, arrogance, greed, cowardice, recklessness, cruelty, foolishness, and an inability to learn from mistakes. Throughout the series, Mokku must confront these faults and endure costly ordeals, many of which stem from his own delinquency and repeated disobedience, in order to prove himself worthy of being granted humanity.
