Description

Kayoko Sakura no Saku Hi is a Japanese anime that tells the true story of 15‑year‑old Kayoko Hayashi, a volunteer for the war effort at Shiroyama Elementary School in Nagasaki. After the atomic bombing, Kayoko’s body was discovered 21 days later, crushed beneath the school building where she had been working. In tribute, her mother donated 50 cherry tree saplings, six of which have survived to this day, to the school, creating a living memorial to Kayoko and to the other children who lost their lives. The series invites reflection on the devastation of war and the enduring hope for peace.
