Momotarou: Umi no Shinpei continues the tradition of featuring the legendary Peach Boy from Japanese folklore. The story centers on a surprise operation on Sulawesi island, showcasing the actions of parachute troops. Throughout the film, Japan's narrative of “liberating Asia”, a theme promoted by the government at the time, is portrayed. The movie also includes musical moments, most notably “The Song of AIUEO” (アイウエオの歌, AIUEO no Uta), a scene in which Japanese soldiers instruct local animals to speak.
