Between August and October 1952, a series of bizarre crimes erupts in Musashino and Mitaka. The 14‑year‑old Kanako Yuzuki is first the target of an attempted murder, then abducted from a strange research “hospital” where she was recuperating. After that, other girls are seized, and their severed limbs are placed in custom‑fitted boxes that are sent to surrounding towns. News editor Morihiko Toriguchi and crime‑fiction writer Tatsumi Sekiguchi investigate the case with the help of onmyōji Akihiko Chūzenji.
