August 1945. In a former theological seminary converted into a hospital on the outskirts of Nagasaki, a young doctor tends to his patients as unsettling news arrives that the United States has deployed a new weapon in Hiroshima. When the second nuclear bomb is dropped on Nagasaki, the hospital staff must work tirelessly to save lives amid the concentric circles of death that have enveloped their city.
