Description
The film adapts the classic Japanese folk tale “Saru Kani Gassen,” centering on a crab and a monkey who each stumble upon a prized item at the same time, a rice ball for the crab and an apricot seed for the monkey. The monkey, uninterested in the seed, offers to trade it for the crab’s rice ball. He eats the rice ball immediately, while the crab plants and cares for the seed until it grows into a tall apricot tree brimming with fruit. When the tree bears fruit, the crab can no longer reach the apricots and seeks the monkey’s help, leading the story toward a darker turn.
