Nils is a lazy and greedy boy whose mischievous deeds bring misery to everyone around him, from his parents to the animals on his farm and even to the fairy‑like tomte he captures one day. His mischief ultimately backfires when the tiny tomte casts a spell that shrinks Nils to the same miniature size. The only way to lift the curse is to embark on a journey to distant Lapland, accompanied by Morten the farm goose, Carrot the hamster, and a flock of wild geese. Along the way, Nils faces cruel witches, talking statues, wise ravens, and a relentless fox. Guided by the stern but caring Captain Akka, the leader of the flock, he discovers his kind heart and develops a love for nature. But when the time comes, will he be able to choose between his humanity and the path that lies ahead?
