NHK’s Heat Exhibition, held each March, invites individuals with disabilities to submit poetry for a chance to have their work featured alongside original artwork by a celebrity. Each year, 50 applicants are selected. One of the poems, written by mentally‑impaired Megumi Ichimura, received a melody composed by classically trained Japanese violinist Ikuko Kawai. With singer Emiko Shiratori, their song titled “Obaachan Moshikashite” was broadcast on the Minna no Uta program in April 2005. The accompanying video blends live scenery with animation by Seiichi Hayashi.
