The song, first featured in the children’s television program *Hirake! Ponkikki*, was released as a popular CD in 1975. In 2008 it was reissued alongside an anime DVD that included a music video. The lyrics open with Taiyaki‑kun and his fellow taiyaki pancakes lamenting their endless cycle of being cooked on a hot plate. The song then tells of Taiyaki‑kun’s escape to the sea, only to be captured and eaten by an angler.
