Description

Ryoukan-san is an animated biographical film that follows the life of Ryoukan, a real‑life Buddhist monk and celebrated poet who lived in 18th‑century Japan during the Edo period. Born into a wealthy family in Izumozaki, Ryoukan renounced the comfortable life that awaited him in order to seek the true meaning of existence through Buddhist teachings. From his early adulthood he endured rigorous training and a solitary, austere lifestyle. Throughout his journey he remained profoundly modest and humble, embracing humanity in its diversity while rejecting worldly fame and material wealth. He found genuine peace in nature and in spending time with children, and his clear mind and compassionate spirit left an enduring legacy.
