Description
Sachiko, a 7‑year‑old girl, has just lost her immediate family in the firebombing of Tokyo. She travels by train to her uncle’s home in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, hoping for safety. However, her journey is still fraught with danger when a plane shoots the train. At the station, her uncle and his entire family welcome her warmly, and with her cousins she enjoys the natural beauty surrounding Kumagaya. These peaceful late‑summer moments, however, are short‑lived. The story culminates in the final air raid of the war, as the city plunges into fear and chaos; Sachiko becomes separated from her family, leading to tragic consequences.
