The film remains very faithful to the original, down to the smallest details, except for a kangaroo‑rat that suddenly appears twenty minutes into the movie and then follows Aladdin around, serving no narrative purpose but acting as a token animal mascot. The screenwriter, Akira Miyazaki, needs no introduction; he single-handedly wrote five of the classic WMT series, including *Perrine* and *Rascal*, and contributed to two others.
