Sekishoku Elegy is a legendary love comic that moved baby‑boomers to tears with its portrayal of the heart‑rending sorrow of cohabitation, reflecting the experience of young Japanese couples in the 1970s. Renowned painter Seiichi Hayashi, known for his work on Koume Chan candies and the celebrated Sendai confectionery Hagi No Tsuki, serves as both the original writer and director of the animation. Hayashi reunites with folk singer Morio Agata after more than thirty years; Agata achieved a major hit with a song that originated from the comic. Recent adaptations have revitalized Sekishoku Elegy as a work of Ganime.
