Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) follows Chihiro Ogino, a ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new home with her parents, stumbles upon an abandoned theme park. Unaware that it is a realm inhabited by spirits who are active at night, Chihiro’s parents eat food from a mysterious restaurant and are transformed into pigs. This event traps Chihiro in the spirit world, separated from the human world by a vast, magical river.
In this unfamiliar environment, Chihiro meets Haku, a boy who claims to have known her previously, and who helps her secure work at a bathhouse that serves the spirits. Throughout her time there, Chihiro encounters a variety of supernatural beings, learns the rules of this strange society, and gradually adapts to the challenges of her new surroundings.
