A devoted son foregoes playtime to fish every day, striving to honor his father. One day, his net catches a pot; when he opens it, a demon springs forth. This film was the first animated production commissioned by the Ministry of Education and was produced by Yamamoto Manga Seisakusho, the studio founded by Sanae Yamamoto. Its story is primarily based on “The Fisherman and the Genie” from The Arabian Nights, with the fable of the lion and the fox from Machiavelli’s *The Prince* woven in.
