When someone dies, what words do they wish to leave behind? The letters, called “shigofumi,” carry those final thoughts, whether love, hate, hope, regret, or even seemingly insignificant words, sent from the recently deceased to the living. Yet there is more to Fumika’s quiet demeanor: although shigofumi carriers are dead humans who retain the appearance they had just before death, Fumika continues to age.
