Musashi lives with his father after his mother left them three years ago, and he remains convinced that she will return. When the family moves from Tokyo to a rural village, he resents the change, begging his father to take him back to the city while worrying that his mother might find him in the new surroundings. Soon after settling in the countryside, Musashi spots a man fishing for bass with a decoy fish and becomes fascinated by lure fishing. He learns many techniques from the man and discovers that his maternal grandfather was a grand champion of bass fishing. Believing that fishing could lead him to his missing mother, Musashi develops a marvelous talent for lure fishing and travels to many places to refine his skill.
