It is mid‑December when Haruhi Suzumiya, the chief of the SOS Brigade, announces that the club will hold a Christmas party in the clubroom, complete with a Japanese hotpot dinner. Kyon, Yuki Nagato, Mikuru Asahina and Itsuki Koizumi begin preparing the event, arranging costumes and decorations. A few days later, Kyon arrives at school to find Haruhi missing. Even more puzzling, Mikuru claims she has never met Kyon before, Koizumi is nowhere to be found, and Yuki has become the sole member of the literature club. The SOS Brigade appears to have never existed, nor has Haruhi Suzumiya. No one at the school has ever heard of her, except Kyon.
