According to an ancient legend, a mermaid’s flesh grants immortality when eaten. Five centuries ago, Yuta inadvertently consumed a fragment of such flesh. For many years he wandered across Japan, hoping to find a mermaid who might restore him to mortal form. When he finally encounters one, he learns that she and her companions have been raising a girl to use as their food, thereby taking on the girl’s youthful appearance and staying young themselves.
