Tong Tong: You You no Hi no Youjin ／ トントン・ユウユウの火の用心
Description
Tong Tong, inspired by the real panda at Ueno Zoo who became Japan’s first successfully born giant panda in captivity, and her younger male sibling You You are scolded by Lion‑sensei at school. One night a fire breaks out when a candle is left lit, and the fire brigade arrives to extinguish the blaze. The two pandas learn important fire‑safety lessons, and the next day a similar fire erupts at their school. Using their new knowledge, Tong Tong and You You call 119, enabling the fire brigade to arrive in time to save the school. This educational short was created partly to honor the 20th anniversary of the “Normalization of Sino‑Japanese Relations” in 1972, during which pandas were temporarily exchanged.
