A boy and a girl work together on a farm. During a break the boy plays his violin, and the girl and the farm animals listen with delight. The harsh farm owner then shatters the boy’s instrument. In his sorrow, the boy encounters a witch disguised as a donkey and offers her the stale bread that was his only meal that day. Grateful, the witch grants the boy one wish.
