Description

The film adapts the children’s song “The Hare and the Tortoise,” whose lyrics were written by Wasaburo Ishihara and composed by Benjiro Nosho. Its visuals are created with a simple line‑only drawing style. Although silent, the animation incorporates musical elements: the song’s lyrics appear as musical notes that emanate from the characters’ mouths. The backgrounds are distinctive, evoking scenes from a foreign country rather than the typical landscapes of traditional Japanese folk tales. This work is among Sanae Yamamoto’s earliest films, and production records indicate it was produced by Kitayama Eiga Seisakusho, owned by her teacher Seitaro Kitayama.
