Vampire Hunter D

Ten thousand years in the future, civilization has crumbled into a Gothic dark age where feudal villages coexist with advanced technology. The people live under the tyrannical rule of ancient vampire nobility, with the remote hamlet dominated by the powerful Count Magnus Lee. When the Count bites a young woman named Doris Lang and chooses her as his bride, she turns for salvation to a lone, enigmatic stranger named D.

D is a dhampir, half-human, half-vampire and one of the world's most skilled Vampire Hunters. Hired by Doris, he embarks on a deadly mission to infiltrate the Count's castle, battling through a host of grotesque minions and genetic horrors. His journey is as much an internal conflict as a physical one, as he must constantly wrestle with the dark vampire legacy flowing in his own veins.

This story is the basis for the landmark 1985 anime film Vampire Hunter D, a classic of gothic science fiction. The film was produced by Ashi Productions (credited as Film Circle) and directed by Toyoo Ashida, based on the acclaimed novel series by Hideyuki Kikuchi.
