Japanese animation studio Studio 4°C has released the official clip for its upcoming feature film All You Need Is Kill, one of the studio’s highly anticipated long-form projects. The clip was published recently as part of promotional efforts leading up to the film’s theatrical release in early 2026, and fans can now get a first look at the animation style and tone of the adaptation directly from the source.
All You Need Is Kill is based on the acclaimed science fiction light novel of the same title by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which has seen multiple adaptations in different media since its original release in 2004. Studio 4°C’s version marks a new animated interpretation of the story, distinct from its previous live-action adaptation, Edge of Tomorrow, a Hollywood film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
The anime film adaptation is directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, known for his work in animation including roles on projects such as Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko. Production is handled by Studio 4°C, a studio acclaimed for its visually unique and experimental works like Mind Game and Tekkonkinkreet.
Unlike many conventional anime adaptations, this film offers a fresh narrative perspective within the time-loop sci-fi genre. The story centers on characters caught in a repeating cycle of life and combat against alien threats, a theme that has resonated widely with audiences since the novel’s publication and earlier adaptations.
The newly released official clip gives audiences an early glimpse of the visual direction and animation technique employed by Studio 4°C. While the full film is not yet available, this short promotional video showcases key visual motifs and thematic elements that fans are likely to recognize from the source material.
Alongside this clip, the film has been featured at several international events and screenings. For instance, it received early attention with festival appearances, including a world premiere at prominent animation festivals, where industry observers praised the stylistic ambition and storytelling approach.
Adding to the build-up, the film’s official theme song, titled “Tsuretette”, is performed by rising Japanese singer-songwriter AKASAKI. The track represents the artist’s first major tie-in with an anime project and contributes to the film’s overall promotional campaign, blending original music with memorable sequences from the animation.
The collaboration music video for “Tsuretette,” which has also appeared online via official channels, combines footage from the film with song visuals, further amplifying fan excitement around the project.
All You Need Is Kill is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on January 9, 2026, with distribution by Warner Bros. Japan, followed by an international rollout that includes a U.S. release and screenings at select film festivals. The adaptation has already generated significant buzz in the anime community thanks to its blend of high-stakes action, science fiction narrative, and the artistic touch that Studio 4°C is known for.
Fans of the original light novel and broader science fiction genre continue to watch closely as additional promotional materials and clips are unveiled ahead of the film’s full release. With its official music, dynamic animation style, and story reinterpretation, All You Need Is Kill stands as one of the winter 2026 anime releases to watch.
