Crunchyroll is rereleasing both seasons of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion on Blu-ray on February 3, 2026, timed to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary. Preorders are live via the Crunchyroll store and major retailers.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is a Japanese anime produced by Sunrise, directed by Gorō Taniguchi and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi. The original TV run began in October 2006 (season 1) and continued through 2007, with the sequel R2 airing in 2008. The series mixes mecha action, political drama and supernatural elements centered on Lelouch, a prince who gains the power known as "Geass".
According to the announcement, the Blu-ray releases are more than a format upgrade, collectors can expect exclusive art cards (season 1 featuring Lelouch, season 2 featuring Suzaku), Japanese cast commentaries, English voice actor interviews, picture-drama mini-episodes, and season-specific extras such as the "Baba Theater Redux" shorts on the R2 set. These bonus inclusions make the rerelease attractive for longtime fans and newcomers who want a comprehensive package.
This rerelease celebrates a milestone for a series that has influenced mecha storytelling and anime strategy dramas for nearly two decades. A remastered Blu-ray edition gives viewers improved picture and audio quality and preserves a canonical home-video version with extras that are often missing from streaming editions. It’s also a chance for collectors to own physical extras that streaming can’t provide.
If you don’t want to wait for the physical release, the series remains available to stream on Crunchyroll (subscription required). The Blu-ray release is aimed at collectors and viewers who prefer a remastered, offline viewing experience.
Bottom line: If you’re a Code Geass fan or a collector of definitive anime releases, mark February 3, 2026 on your calendar, the remastered Blu-ray sets promise improved quality and a decent bundle of extras that make a physical purchase worthwhile.
