Your Name Returns to Theaters in Stunning 4K for Its 10th Anniversary

One of the most celebrated anime films of the last decade is returning to the big screen. Makoto Shinkai's Your Name (Kimi no Na wa.) has received a new 4K remaster to celebrate the film's 10th anniversary.

GKIDS is bringing the newly remastered version to theaters across North America beginning August 14, 2026, giving longtime fans and a new generation of viewers an opportunity to experience Shinkai's landmark film on the big screen.

Your Name Celebrates 10 Years

Originally released in Japan in 2016, Your Name became an international phenomenon and helped establish Makoto Shinkai as one of the most recognizable names in contemporary Japanese animation.

The film follows Mitsuha, a high school student living in rural Japan, and Taki, a student in Tokyo, whose lives unexpectedly become connected. What initially appears to be a strange supernatural experience gradually develops into a larger story involving memory, distance and the connections between people.

Its detailed backgrounds, dramatic use of light and color, memorable music and emotional storytelling helped Your Name reach audiences far beyond traditional anime fans.

A New 4K Remaster for Theaters

For the anniversary release, Your Name has been newly remastered in 4K. The theatrical presentation offers an opportunity to revisit the film's highly detailed environments and cinematic sequences with improved image quality on modern screens.

GKIDS confirmed that the remaster began screening in North American theaters on August 14, 2026. Screenings are available in both the original Japanese-language version and the English dub.

The distributor also revealed new anniversary key art as part of the film's return, turning the rerelease into a wider celebration of a movie that has remained highly popular throughout the decade since its debut.

A 4K UHD Physical Release Is Also Coming

The theatrical rerelease is not the only way fans will be able to experience the remaster. Following its return to cinemas, Your Name is scheduled to arrive on 4K UHD SteelBook and Blu-ray on August 25, 2026 in North America.

The release gives collectors a physical edition of the newly restored presentation and continues the growing trend of major anime films receiving premium high-resolution rereleases.

A Major Film in Makoto Shinkai's Career

Although Shinkai had already directed acclaimed works such as 5 Centimeters per Second and The Garden of Words, Your Name introduced his work to a much larger international audience.

He would later continue exploring spectacular landscapes, relationships and supernatural events in films including Weathering with You and Suzume.

Ten years after its original release, the arrival of a dedicated 4K remaster demonstrates the lasting popularity of Your Name. For fans who first discovered the movie in 2016, the theatrical rerelease offers a chance to revisit it on the big screen, while newer anime viewers can experience one of the defining animated films of its era in theaters for the first time.

Your Name's 4K remaster began screening in North American theaters on August 14, 2026, with its 4K UHD SteelBook and Blu-ray release scheduled for August 25.
