Ergo Proxy (2006) Gets 4K Remaster and Global Streaming Rollout

The cult-favorite cyberpunk anime Ergo Proxy is making a comeback with a newly remastered 4K version set for global streaming in early 2026. Originally aired in 2006, Ergo Proxy is known for its moody dystopian world, philosophical themes, and striking visual style, earning it a devoted fanbase despite its initial limited reach.

The 23-episode series, directed by Shukou Murase and written by Dai Satō (Cowboy Bebop), blends psychological thriller, science fiction, and existentialism in a post-apocalyptic setting where humans and androids coexist uneasily. The new remaster enhances the original visuals with sharper detail and improved color grading while preserving the anime’s signature atmosphere and tone.

Fans will be able to stream the remastered Ergo Proxy on platforms including Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, and Amazon Prime Video starting February 2026. A limited-edition Blu-ray box set featuring artbooks, interviews, and director’s commentary is also set to release in March 2026.

This marks the most accessible and visually enhanced version of Ergo Proxy to date, an ideal time for both longtime fans and newcomers to dive into one of anime’s most intellectually ambitious works from the 2000s.
