Description

Here and There (1961) blends live‑action and animation and was screened at the Three‑Person Animation 2 festival. Throughout the film, musique concrète and electronic sounds, crafted by modulating everyday noises such as a flushing toilet, are interwoven. The work highlights contrasts reflected in its title, juxtaposing live‑action with animation, mundane daily sounds with bizarre noises, and the theme of gender conflict, a hallmark of Yōji Kuri’s oeuvre, through the pairing of musique concrète and scat singing.
