Set during Japan’s Heian Period, the story follows a young woman who disguises herself as a man to confront the lingering evil spirits that haunt forests, mountains, and rivers. Known as Kaidomaru, she bears a Chinese character for “Flame” tattooed on her upper arm and is one of the Four Devas. She battles these spirits in honor of her lost love, Raikou Minamotono, who sacrificed his life protecting Kyoto from the deeds of a princess cursed by a malicious ogre. The princess, whom Kaidomaru once played with as a child, has become her ultimate enemy.
