In the year 2039, helper androids are common household devices. Keiichiro, a former band member whose family died in a traffic collision, has withdrawn from the music scene. While scavenging in a landfill, he discovers an obsolete android model. He brings her into his home, but when he takes her to a repair shop, they inform him that she cannot be restored. Disappointed, he intends to discard her, yet the following morning she is already making breakfast for him. From that point, the story follows the quiet summer days shared by a memory‑less android and a dreamless boy. Kowarekake no Orgel debuted as an independent OVA and later received a theatrical release that is longer and slightly different from the original.
