Description
Rune Balot is a down‑and‑out teenage prostitute in the crime‑ridden metropolis of Mardock City. One day she is taken in by Shell, an ambitious casino manager who provides her with everything she could ever wish for. He offers her a seemingly fresh start, a fabricated innocence, a false past, and a new life, making Balot feel grateful. Yet she remains curious about his motives, so she investigates his history on a computer. The investigation turns out to be a mistake that will profoundly alter her life. When Shell discovers what she has uncovered, he attempts to kill her by blowing up her car. With the city’s high crime rate, a new law called Scramble 09 grants police the authority to take extreme and otherwise illegal measures.
