Description
Kappa, the water imps of Japanese folklore, have long been believed to inhabit rivers and lakes. Reports of sightings, as well as depictions in paintings, sculptures, and stories, attest to their presence. As Japan industrialized in the 20th century, many lakes were reclaimed, rivers received concrete banks, and the widespread use of chemicals in agriculture further degraded aquatic habitats. Fish, insects, birds, and other wildlife lost their homes, and so did the Kappa. This film vividly portrays the waterside landscapes of Japan when Kappa still thrived, offering a glimpse of these mythic creatures if we can halt environmental pollution and restore habitats for all creatures.
