Based on the manga by Akatsuka Fujio, *Mōretsu Atarō* follows the life of Batsugoro, the owner of the humble grocery shop Yaobatsu. One day, while attempting to retrieve a balloon that had hung on a branch for a young child, Batsugoro slips and falls, dying at the scene. His son, Atarō, takes over the store but is haunted by his father's lingering concerns, which manifest as Batsugoro’s ghost. Atarō manages the shop on his own until his devoted companion Dekoppachi steps in to help.
