Description

Pika Don is an animated documentary that depicts the tragic aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The film explains that the bomb’s flash, named “PICA”, was a hundred times brighter than the sun, while the shockwave that followed, called “DON”, was the enormous wave of destruction. At the time it was completed, the short was the world’s first animation to address such a sensitive subject. Its impact led the City of Hiroshima to establish the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in 1984, recognizing animation as an effective artistic medium.
