Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s children’s story, Yuki no Joou follows Gerda and Kai, neighbors and best friends since childhood. Gerda is eleven and Kai twelve; they lead happy, ordinary lives, working and playing together. Their world changes when the Snow Queen’s mirror shatters. The shards scatter worldwide, each holding a dangerous evil. A shard lodges in Kai’s eye, turning his heart to ice and making him cold toward those he loves. One night, the Snow Queen arrives in her carriage and takes Kai to her ice castle at the farthest north point of the world. The village, unaware of his whereabouts, believes he drowned in the frozen‑ove.
