Chuuzumou is a short film that premiered exclusively at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. The story adapts the Japanese folk tale “The Mice’s Sumo Tournament.” Deep in the mountains lives an old couple who labor tirelessly through the fields. One evening, the husband notices a group of mice heading toward a hidden gathering. Curiously, he follows them and discovers that the mice are preparing for a sumo tournament. When the couple learns that their home mice consistently lose, they decide to boost their team’s morale. They prepare a special banquet of saury fish dumplings and grilled tofu with miso sauce, and even create new red sumo uniforms for the mice. The film leaves viewers wondering what will happen in the next sumo games.
