At the Personality Plant, robots are constructed and gradually fitted with artificial memories derived from real people. Suzu, a robot designed to replace a boy lost to a family, comes into existence there. By chance, he meets Hotori, a young girl who suffers from progressive memory loss. The two children become friends and together attempt to define themselves amid their evolving memories.
